Outgroup (cladistics) : ウィキペディア英語版 | Outgroup (cladistics)
In cladistics or phylogenetics, an outgroup is a group of organisms that is used as a frame of reference for what is considered the "ingroup" of organisms. Those that mostly resemble the outgroup are thought to have diverged earlier in time, and so developed fewer adaptations to distinguish it from the outgroup. Similarly, those with more adaptations will resemble the outgroup least, and so diverged much later after accumulating more adaptations.
